I WAS THERE ®
It was a beautiful afternoon in June. My husband, Stephen, and I were traveling through Kruger in South Africa when we saw this lone huge elephant. As we stopped to photograph him, he came toward us but stopped short at a large Apple-Leaf tree where he began rubbing up against it. I suppose he had an itch and the texture of the tree felt good against his skin. Elephants can be over 14 ft tall and 30 ft wide, weighing as much as 14,000 lbs; this guy definitely appeared to be on the large side. Though elephants are quite social, this fellow seemed to enjoy being alone. NEILL
